College Park, Maryland – February 22, 2018 – The University of Maryland men’s soccer team will embark on a WorldStrides Excel Sports tour of England during spring break from March 16-25. The trip will include friendlies against Connah’s Quay, Leicester City and Queens Park Rangers.
The Terps will also spend time in England training and visiting cultural and historical sites. The squad will kick off the trip attending the Manchester United/West Ham United English Premier League match at London’s Olympic Stadium on March 17.
“After our trip four years ago, the decision to go back to England this year was an easy one,” head coach Sasho Cirovski said. “We are honored to get this opportunity from these three strong teams and embrace the challenge of playing their Under-23 sides. I am excited to see how we measure up.”
Maryland’s first friendly will take play at the Clayton Wood Training Ground against Stoke City’s U-23 team. Maryland will also visit Manchester United’s Aon Training Complex before getting a tour of the famed Old Trafford the following day. They will then take on Leicester City’s U-23s at the club’s development home at Holmes Park on Wednesday, March 21. The Terps will then travel back to London for a day of sightseeing and culture immersion. The Terps’ final match of the week will come at the Harlington Sports Ground against QPR’s U-23 squad. Maryland will attend a match between Charlton and Plymouth at the Valley the following day before returning stateside Sunday.
“In addition to the fantastic competition we will get on the field, our players will get the chance to experience live English Premier League matches, see high level training sessions and most importantly, be immersed in the rich history and culture of England. Cirovski said.”

The tour will be Maryland’s third organized by WorldStrides Excel Sports. Maryland’s foreign tour is just one part of a comprehensive spring schedule that includes six additional games.
“We have put together a challenging spring schedule, in addition to our exciting UK Tour,” Cirovski said. “We open with two high quality USL sides that will prepare us for the trip to England. We will finish by playing three college teams that will help our preparations for next season.”
